Can I use standard Kreg screws for an exterior tabletop I'm building?

I'm building the top to my Big Green Egg table out of 2x4 cedar boards (ripped on each side to get a straight edge). I've got all my pocket holes drilled....but I'm struggling with what size screw to use.

Based on Kreg's suggestions the screw length that should be used is 2 1/2" screws on 2x lumber. That's way too long for edge joining these boards but it looks like 1 1/2" length screws should be about perfect.

With that said, it appears to be difficult to find 1 1/2" blue-kote screws (wanted to use these since the table is going to be out on my deck and exposed to the elements). However, I have a bunch of the regular (indoor) 1 1/2" Kreg screws.

Do you see any issues with using these screws even though they won't be completely exposed to the elements (since they'll be on the underside of the table)?

Thanks for any input!

You can buy 1 1/2 Blue Kote in Australia so you should be able to get them too.

I would think rust would eventually be a problem, underside or not.

Free Hand Guard (dust collection)

Hi.  I'm wondering if anyone has used the Woodpecker Free Hand Guard for dust collection on their bench top router table during pattern routing.  How effective is it?  It's adaptable to any router table.  Continue

New Kreg 720Pro

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.

I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.

First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
