I noticed there was some discussion on that in 2012, do not know the outcome. I recently broke the bit tip TWICE within the week, working with plywood. Originally I thought there was a piece of metal embedded in plywood but could not really find anything. It looks like the tip just broke. Very frustrating. Asking for input: is it the design, poor manufacturing (somewhere abroad) or am I doing something wrong? I finished the job using just a 3/8 drill bit for wood.

Mine is coming up on a year old, with at least 2000 holes drilled with no issues. Working on a flip top cart for my planer over the past week-end and the holes are still coming out clean. I do have a spare bit on standby, but haven't even had it in the drill yet.
