Kreg Owners' Community

Hi all,

I'm building a large picture frame (about 2' x 3') that will hold a piece of radiator cover to display pins. Using 1x3 flat stock rabbeted down the middle with routered edges and then an inlay in the rabbet.

I don't have a biscuit joiner and don't want to spend money on one for one project. I could use flat corner braces and screws but wondering if one Kreg screw in each joint on the 45 would be ok? I've only ever seen 2 per joint.

thanks!

Michele,

One screw used in tandem with a good wood glue should work fine.  Use some means to insure the corners are square, apply the glue, secure the frame pieces then drive the screw.  The screw will secure the pieces while the glue dries. This joint should be strong enough for the project you describe.

Hope this helps, Don

Thanks for the response. I forgot that in addition to the inlay, I have a 1x3 sistered to the back because I needed the depth to have the radiator cover set back in PLUS another 1/8" rabbet in order to recess the thin backing i'll be putting on it that will come off in order to add more pins as needed so it may be heavier than I thought. What's the closest recommended to put two pocket holes? Obviously where I drill the hole also depends on where it lands in the contour.
