I am making a face frame for a wall unit.  The verticals are up to 8' long and some of the horizontals are even longer.  Is there anyway to use the jig sideways? or do I need to just take the jig outside and have someone help hold the pieces in the usual vertical manner? (i'm only half kidding.) Thanks for any ideas.

You didn't mention which jig/system you had. Assuming K4 or Micro (I don't have a K3, K5 or others, but assuming they are the same) you can use it sideways or upside down.

The drill block (the part with the lined holes and numbers on the side) should slide into an adapter.  Set the depth of the jig to the appropriate height, based on the thickness of your face frame (don't forget to set the drill stop, as well.)  Line up the lip on the adapter to the edge and clamp it down. Drill your holes!

Thanks so much, Tim.  It seems obvious now that you say this.  I have the K4 and the micro.  Its great for a beginner like me to have the reassurance of a more experienced person.

One of the great things about the Kreg Jig is its versatility. You can clamp it to the end of your long pieces with the portable base. Look on page 8 of the manual.
