Kreg Owners' Community

Hi,

I'm a newbie here.  I am trying to find out what size screw I need to use to attach a 2x4 to a 3/4" stock frame.  I would be drilling the pocket holes into the 2x4, but if I try to use the screw that I typically would use to attach to another 2x4 it will be too long and will protrude on the other side of the 3/4" frame.

Please help.

Thanks,

Frank

Easy... Drill the hole according to the piece you are drilling into.

Use the screw size/length according to the piece you are attaching it to.

Frank,

The general rule of thumb when working with two different thicknesses is to set everything up for your thinner thickness and use the screw for that setting. In this application you would set up everything for 3/4" settings and then use a 1 1/4" screw.  If you have any additional questions please feel free to let us know.

Thanks so much.

Frank, does this help?

Yes, thanks so much for this.

Am I wrong about the different thicknesses of wood and the advice I previously left for Frank? Someone else help us out here, please. The chart Stewart attached shows all attaching two pieces of the same thickness.
Sorry guys I didn't read the question properly, I agree set drill to timber size your drilling but use screw length according to the timber your screwing too, 1 1/4" for 3/4" timber.
