I'm thinking of adding a drill press to my equipment.  It would not be used all the time and so don't need anything industrial.  Just something for the hobbyist really.

Any recommendations greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Andy

I would check Craigslist.

I think a 10 inch is a better investment in a drill press.  I got an 8 inch and the table isn't on a screw, that limits things you can do with it, and adjustability is an issue sometimes, but mine works fine for what little I use it.  I made a cabinet for the bench top I have and placed it so that I can spin the head and use it similar to a floor model if I need to.  The picture is before I actually permanently mounted it onto the cabinet.

Search your Craig list  find a good used drillpress .

In regard to buying the drill press at Harbor Freight.  I buy a lot of stuff at HF and have developed a rule that saves a lot of time returning tools.  If it has a motor and you will be using it a lot DONOT buy it HF!

Wonder about getting a very used top of the line press, and replacing parts as needed. I have a service center in my town and they can get most of the parts for big name products as needed.

If you are mechanically declined, and know what you are looking for, that is a good way to go, but sometimes wore out is just slap plain wore out. Also make sure of parts availability, because some machines can be just obsolete.

I actually have had good luck with HF power tools, although I check the comment section and watch for the trends.  You can actually see when they have a bad batch of a particular tool by the way the comments run.  There are some products you just avoid like the plague, but if starting out on a budget and not doing production work, it is better to have an HF tool than nothing at all.

I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.

First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
