It is common practice with many OEMs to "glue" or "machine staple" vs tape the flaps closed.

Gluing is more cost effective and more efficient.

Tape is another expense.

Taped box problems:

1. If or when the corner of the tape is not securely bonded to the carton,

the loose end(s) gets snagged on something, and causes the tape to peal off, 

which occurs during transit.

2. The packaged goods may get exposed to moisture, during storage or transit, and the tape loses its grip and comes off.

3. A taped package can be easily opened, goods removed, and the package retaped.  

I prefer my packaged goods to have the flaps closed/sealed with adhesive.

(I generally use "hot melt" glue to seal my boxed goods, when I prep them for shipment).

Many don't properly apply the tape and press the edges to the carton.

Some carriers have to retape the package.

(USPS does not retape the package.  Lots of their delivered packaged goods get opened enroute).

I'm Johanne, and I'm quite new at this hobby. Last time I delved into woodwork was in high school. I'm hoping to learn from the community members. This hobby is very relaxing and it's as much fun as my fishing. I live in Belize, and it sometimes tough to find the right tools, but my Kreg tools have been awesome so far.

My kit included the dust collector. I purchased at a woodworking show. It is a great accessory. I can drill 50 pocket holes with nearly 0 cleanup

My name is Erik and I finally got an R3 kit and a bunch of screws.  I plan on making some storage/book shelves for our new house so we can finish unpacking sooner rather than later and also will be making some 2x4-based storage shelves as soon as I get more 2 1/2" coarse screws.

I began woodworking with a table Jig saw my father brought home when I was 6. It was totally rusted and had no motor. We cleaned it up and added a motor and I began cutting out Christmas ornaments which I painted and sold to neighbors. I learned to use the lathe next and went on to make frames for my stained glass pieces. In high school and the early years of my marriage I made a lot of furniture. Next came a two decade break. I'm back at it and just finished my first project... A 16' counter height table to prep my fabrics for hand dyeing and painting.

Hi, my name is Arnita.  I just recently retired and am so busy with just about everything I enjoy doing.  I purchased my Kreg pocket hole jig about a month ago and I have made one very poorly done picture frame.  Everyone on this site has been inspiring me to try more.  I want to make a coffee station, very simple, that looks much like the work bench with just easy drawers and a bottom shelf.  I'm so scared to begin.  I don't have a clear pattern.  I would appreciate any suggestions from any of you talented people out there.

My hobby's are making jewelry out of vintage and antique silverware, stained glass windows and stained glass 3D objects (lanterns airplanes and kaleidoscopes.  My husband and I also transform old dining room chairs into outdoor benches.  We live in Sioux Falls, SD.   I would like to make a project that I don't need his help in doing because he takes over while I get to watch.

It is great to be in this community.  Everything looks like so much fun.

Hi, Don here. I'm in Middleburg, FL. Have always tinkered with wood so my wife figured she would purchase me the K 3 set about a month ago. Built a toy box from plans I found here, now working on the Ice chest cooler box. We will see where all this leads. And I forgot to add the used Shop Smith I picked up a couple of weeks ago.

Better watch out! lol You are gonna get the woodworkers bug! Just think, you can build him a changing table, toy box, tree house, etc. lol Then you can teach him woodworking! Congrats on your grandson.

Hey Arnita! You are going to have a blast! Before you know it you will be giving the advice lol You never stop learning, every project seems to be a challenge. That's part of what makes woodworking addicting! Hang in there and have fun. My advice to you as far as the coffee station goes is to maybe wait on it and start a easier project. Maybe stepping stool??  Good luck!

I have heard nothing but good things about Kreg's customer service. Maybe try calling or resending your email. I'm sure they will make it right. oh, hey...try Face Book.

Thanks for the response to my earlier post. As I had mentioned before the box WAS glued at the factory and shipped to the retailer and was completely sealed when I opened the box. So the Bonus part was missing from the manufacturer. The reply to the customer service email I have received from Kreg has not been answered. In other words they have just blown

me off.
