Scott,
It's Important to learn of the various wood working joints, that are applicable to specific tasks.
Good books are the best place to start.
Ex:
The Joint Book
For pocket hole joinery/construction.
---------
There are many books available on today's market; however,
these two are the ones I'd suggest to start with.
Great source of info---basic and they get too the point.
With these two books, you can go from there.
Each include photos and joinery techniques.
Practice making the applicable joints on cut-offs and scrap pieces of wood.
Make some sawdust.

Hey Everyone, My name is Wesley and I live in Virginia. I just recently bought the Kreg Jig Master System and can't wait to start using it. Right now I am in the designing phase of my project which will be a kitchen hutch with a hide-way island that rolls out. I am new to wood working and I know to everyone this might be a hard task to do cause I don't have any prior experience but I am up to the challenge, after all I am in the Military. When I get the design complete, I will definitely post it on here for everyone and maybe some of you can give me some pointers. I look forward to gaining more knowledge and tips from more experienced wood workers so if you would like, please add me to your friends list. Thanks.
Hi All, I am not new to woodworking but I am new to trying to make nice things.
My woodworking in the past has all been about working on the lathe and hammering together a quick box or such. I am more of a metal man and enjoy welding, milling and generally create stuff from metal.
Lately I am working with wood more and more and have realised that woodworking needs the same amount of detail and precision as metal work. Now that I can make pocket joints, all of a sudden I see a need for cabinets all over the place.
So, I am looking forward to see what you guys come up with and what I can learn.

Hi, my name is Tim and I live in Washington State. I'm getting back into woodworking after a long hiatus. I've had a few projects come up over the last year or two to help my wife's mother (cabinet, deck rail, steps, deck box/bench) and a shed for my lawn & garden tools. I've started on a new work bench with the goal of no visible fasteners. I was going to use biscuits, dadoes & dowels. I've seen the Kreg joining system, but didn't that it would be solid enough. I talked to a woodworking friend who just bought a second set. I picked up the K4 Master set on the way home that day and put it to the test. I joined a piece of scrap 3/4 ply to a rabbeted 2x4 with two pocket holes and 1-1/4 inch Kreg screws. I used it for a mallet, beat it pretty good. The joint not only held, but didn't loosen at all.
The workbench is progressing and coming out very nicely, thanks to the Kreg jig.
Welcome back Tim,
Fancy even bothering to test the Kreg Jig jointing capacity, and that was after talking to you woodworking friend, what gives? did you not trust what he told you?
Any way glad to see more termites having fun with wood.
Now more importantly about that bike !!
Thanks Robert.
I did trust him, which is why I bought the Kreg. He had not used it for something that was going to take abuse like the workbench will. He had used it for cabinets, a couple of pieces of furniture and decking.
My wife now calls my Delta table saw my mistress.
Ahh, the bike. It is a 1998 Yamaha Virago 1100. Sadly, Yamaha stopped making them in about 2000 and put the engine into their "Star" line. I put almost 100K on it before I sold it. I've been meaning to replace, but the appetite for wood has been keeping the wallet empty.

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.
I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.
First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…

Several months ago, I purchased the Kreg K4MS so that I could build the Lego Table as outlined on the companion "buildsomething" web site which exclusively uses pocket hole construction. I have considerable experience with conventional…
