In the video showing how to build and install drawers, there were two tools show that are really neat. One is a gun-looking tool that is used to install the slides to the cabinet and the other is a support to rest the drawer and then install the slides to the drawers. Both were shown in Rockler catalog, but I tried to buy them and they said the product is no longer available. Does anyone know where they can be purchased? I tried several online sources and all said unavailable.

Art,

Is the gun like tool you're asking about the one manufactured by Kreg?  If so the Kreg rep may have the best info on where to obtain one.  I purchased one of these within the last year from my local Rockler store, but have not checked recently to see if they have any more.

If you're installing bottom mount slides, Rockler has the Blum drawer guide tool available.  If you're installing side mount slides and cannot get the Kreg tool, I've used a combination square to mount mine in the past.

Hi Art.  Thank you for taking interest in our drawer-installation video.  Unfortunately, the two Kreg products highlighted within this video—the Kreg Drawer-Slide Mounting Tool (Item# NZ03) and Drawer-Slide Mounting Brackets (Item# NZ03-B)—have been discontinued and are no longer available for sale through Kreg or Kreg Dealers.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

When you have a tool that is good and sell,s , why discontinue making it , I have both and they work good and save time ,  dose not make any  sense to me  but I guess that is the way big company,s take care of their  customer,s  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I probably build more drawers and cabinets than the majority of the members and I do own both of the tools.  For the biggest part they do work however since I have used my conventional methods of using a framing square to set the slides I seldom reach for the either of them.  It is just as fast and accurate for me to set the slides by setting the front end of the slide on a 1/8 inch shim above the face frame rail member screw in a screw and then using the framing square I set it horizontal to the front.  I set the drawers in the same manner screwing in a slide screw by sitting the rear of the drawer on a 1/8 inch shim on both sides, pulling out the slide to the front and attaching a screw thru the front of the drawer slide and one in the rear.  You can see if the drawer is level by measuring the bottom of the drawer to the bottom of the slide.

About the only time I will use the slide setting tool is on frameless cabinets and I arrive at these heights using a special European drawer and hinge setting gauges based on the 32mm system.  Most of the professionals that I know do not bother with either of the tools.

Thanks Jay. What you described is exactly how I mounted six drawers recently in a cabinet I am making.  I just thought, after viewing the video, it might make it easier with the tools.  Since you are not using them, would you be willing to sell them?

Hi Art, Like I said I seldom use them however there are times when I do .  I am surprised that Kreg Tools does not supply them any longer    Your post has been on here for several days and I have seen no one attempt to give you some help other than they are not available.

If you are in need of some here is a location where you can buy a set.  www.sommerfeldtools.com .  They have both the slide installation with the magnet that holds the slide  #SDST @ $29.90 and the shelf jig to set the drawer on # DMB @ $10.90  and most likely postage free.   ph# 1-888-228-9268.  They are identical to kregs other than color.  I know they have them in stock.

I had ordered a Freud blade for my table saw and when I unpacked it I notice that one of the teeth had broken off.  Upon calling Rockler to report it, I inquired about the two tools.  Rockler now has a very similar mounting jig, bt does not have the drawer support arms.  I got on the website you recommended and sure enough, they have the arms and I intend to order them right after Christmas.  You have been very helpful and kind to share your information.  Thanks.

Art, just so you know I did check with the company and they do have them in stock and at that price quoted. You can order on line and for faster results call the 888 number and order.  Turn around time is four business days. they usually ship UPS.
