Hey everybody. My name is Jamie Martin. I am 35 and from Hinesville ga. I am new to Kreg tools and wood working. I have always wanted to learn to work with wood. Unfortunately I do not have the luxury of a nice workshop or garage. I will be keeping everything in my shed. I just got my kreg jig in the mail yesterday and will start my first project this weekend. I am debating on whether to start with the work bench since I don't have one or the coffee table. I will post pictures of all projects that I do. I'm looking forward to getting started. I have a question, would it be better to buy a table saw or miter saw? I plan on making dining tables, coffee tables, bookshelves, bed frames, work bench, picture frames and other similar projects. I'm just not sure which tool is better. I look forward to any comments, tips, tool tips from anyone in the community.

Welcome Jamie, I would go with the table saw then the miter saw , they are both very handy in the shop, use both of mine a lot , looking forward to seeing your pics. of the projects you make , have fun and be safe , JIM !!

My folks not so healthy now so they're trying to downsize and I'm doing up the old place more or less solo, so finally got me started! Bought a kreg (K5)as seems like it offers strong, speedy joints, and that's a good thing. Dreaming of a workshop (shed) already! Looking forward to learning from and sharing with everyone.

Hi, my name is Ernst Kruger. I live in Johannesburg, South Africa. I started my woodwork hobby 6 months ago when I got my Kreg K4 Master System as a birthday present. My first project was a work bench that I built with the Kreg jig and a circular saw. We live in a small town house and I work full-time, so on weekends I take the cars out of the garage, drag my work bench out of the corner and set up temporary shop. I've been a registered user for some months, but only recently posted my first photo's and projects.

Hello, my name is Tim.  I live in Minnesota.  I'm building an ice fishing house and figured pocket screws using the Kreg jig would be perfect for attaching my 2x2 studs to my 2x4 base frame.   BUT I seem to be having a basic noobie type conceptual issue with my R3 Junior. 

I don't understand how to set the collar on the bit for 1.5".   I see the 1 1/4" and 1 1/2" on the left side of the guide, but 2 things confuse me: I  only see 1 mark for both of them (between them), and that mark would set the collar shorter than the 1 1/8" mark on the other side!??   Even if that is just the 1 1/4" mark, how can that be shorter than the 1 1/8" mark?  And where is the 1 1/2" mark?  The 1 3/8" mark on the right side makes sense to me, but that is as far back as the collar can go so far as I can see.

FYI: I found the answer...   The bottom line is the recommended screw length changes!

The screw length changes from 2" to 2.5" when you change from joining 1 3/8" to 1 1/2" wood.

Similarly, it changes from 1 1/2" to 2" when you change from joining 1 1/8" to 1 1/4".

Just a coincidence that the 1 1/4" and 1 1/2" collar settings are identical.

The manual for the Kreg Jig Jr doesn't go into this, but the manual for the Kreg K3 does:
