I designed this stand for my mother as a birthday gift. I used Google Sketchup for the original design and I knew that the Kreg jig would be perfect for this. I made it out of maple and recycled hard drive parts. I sized it to fit her iPad in it's case so she didn't have to keep taking it in and out and hopefully extend the life of the case. Using the Kreg K4 Master System was a breeze. I can't believe how easy everything goes together. Thanks Kreg!

Wow! Great job. Nothing like doing nice things for mom.
Awesome Job!!!
Thanks for the compliments. I was thinking about building a few more of these and maybe putting them on etsy to see if they'll sell.
Awesome...
Hi Gary,
That is a very nice project. I especially like the recycled hard drive parts. I recycle a lot of hard drives myself but I never would have thought of using them for a wood working project. That's very creative. I hope the gift went over well.

Thanks John.
I was fooling around with a bunch of ideas for the hard drive spindle and this one worked out the best for this project. Once I got the spring and ball bearing idea, the rest just fell into place.
My mother loves the stand and she's showing it off to all of her friends. They all think I should sell these. I have a couple more old hard drives so I think I'll build some and see how it goes.

Gary, GREAT job on this very unique project! You should add this to the 'projects' section of the site as well. Just click on projects at the top of the screen then add your own!

Well done, very practical and well implemented.
Thanks for all of your comments. I just added this to the projects section.

Wow that is very nice for a first time project. Your mom will just love it, I know I would be very proud to get this from my son. I especially like the angle on the arm, well done.
