When will Amazon carry this Jig on their list. Currently it doesn't appear there. The reason I am asking is I live outside the US, and Amazon takes care of everything including Custom duty etc.

Hoorey!!!!!! Finally Amazon did show up with the K5 as available and I have placed my order. Paid $188,including import fee etc, but man do I love Kreg!. Time for my Kreg R3 to retire.

CV let us know when you get the jig how you like it.

Sure Gary, expecting it to arrive today! Let's see how cool it is.

Finally the Kreg K5 arrived. The first shock was I found the clamp head jammed. It wouldn't budge even after pressing the ratchet release button. Finally I opened the two screws below, found that the rubber/sythetic small groumet kind of stuff like the one used for cushioning raised panels into grooves was not sitting on the pit meant for it. Once that was set right, the ratchet arrangement worked like a charm. Over all I would give 8 out 10. The clamping mechanism is great The wings and storage are great! I would say overall a very  nice of equipment for your shop.

CV did you mount it to a piece of plywood or mdf? Did it meet your expectation other than the miner problem?

No Gary I have not yet mounted it on any plywood or mdf. I am planning to mount it in a Pocket hole workstation which I am going to build soon, with Castors so that it can be moved around.

Looks like a spring loaded pull to change depth of material that would be much nicer than that small knurled screw head.

CV was it worth the upgrade? I hated the knurled screw head my fat fingers could not adjust very easily.

I really like the clamp mechanism. Clever design. Well the probelm with the spring loaded pull is your one hand is not free when you are adjusting, and if the guide gets stuck are something, it become a little problamatic. The answer to your other question is, I upgraded from a R3, which of course is still going strong. I had it configured as the earlier K4. Shopmade stuff. Yes this jig has easy depth collar setting no error. The stop block is only useful if you are drilling on small width material. The wings and the storage compartment are cool. If you already own a K4, then I don't think you would want to upgrade, unless you sell your K4.

Gary,

Change from: "thumb" screw

to: "wing" screw,

(Wing screws are available at well stocked hardware stores).

(Screw thread diameter and pitch to be same as existing thumb screw, furnished with the unit).

Length of screw threads to accommodate a hex nut and flat washer.

Flat washer positioned to rest against the guide block.

(Install the nut on the wing screw, followed by the flat washer).

Hex nut to be positioned to allow for adjustment on the screw threads---

so the screw tip engages with the guide block, and the wing protrudes far enough out, allowing larger fingers to grasp the wing.

I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.

First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
