Hi Jay,  Thanks for the note.  I did make a box.  I did understand your instructions.  Thank you.  The problem I am having is the wood I am using is 5 1/2 wide.  It barely fits in a 12" miter saw.  The other problem is that my band saw will not accommodate that thickness either for cutting off the ends.  I ended up using the table saw and very carefully cutting off the ends.  Was not easy.  It left more wood than I would have liked.  Using my orbital sander even with 80 grit took some time on some of the ends that had more wood left than others.  I also used my belt sander to help sand down the ends.  There has to be a better way.  I love the sawdust idea.  Thank you.  I also appreciate the water/vinegar glue remover.  I had no idea.  Thank you again for all of your help and knowledge.  Who would have thought there was such a "science" to all of this.  But it is so much fun.

Stephanie about the only other alternative would be using a handsaw.  If you had a table saw sled I could explain a better way where you could use the table saw.  You could also use the sled to cut the miters as well.  What type of table saw do you have?

I have the Delta Unisaw.

Nice saw, You could build a simple sled that would improve everything from cutting the miters to even trimming the ends.   A sled is easy to make and runs in the table top grooves for the miter gauge.

The sled is a simple flat piece of plywood or MDF with an adjustable arm that you can move to any angle you need.  Although it is simple it is probably the most accurate jig you can use.

Do you have a picture of what it might look like or something similar?  Because the blade does not come up high enough for the 5 1/2 inches.  It also will not tilt to 60 degrees.  I am still trying to grasp jigs and sleds.  :)

I understand the difficulty of using the wide boards.  I know I can figure up a jig that will work on the sled.  It would have to have a 60 degree ramp to hold the piece being cut.  Give me a day or so and I will send you a drawing of a jig that you can build.  The one I am think about will allow you to cut the material laying flat where you do not have to raise the table saw blade up very high.

Stephanie, which direction does the blade tip, right or left when standing at the operators end?  Some tile right and some tilt left.  Are you using the 4/4 or 5/4 material?  That should be all the information I will need.  Thanks

Oh my goodness, you do not have to go to all that work.  If you have an example/picture of something that would give me the idea.... Kreg Tool should hire you  :)

Well lets put it this way I enjoy working wood and also like to help and teach the ones that I can.  To me it is not work as I will help anyone learn.  Just need to know the direction of the blade tip on the unisaw that you have.  I don't have a picture and will be a jig build just for the purpose of taking the 45 degree angle that your saw will tip and then either raise of lower the material.  It will be introduced into the blade by use of a flat sliding sled that is guided by the miter groove in the table saw top.  Actually pretty simple.

Excellent then I would raise the material 15 degrees.  Not a problem be glad to do it.

The blade tilts left.  5/4 material.

Ahh the famous saying "pretty simple".  Of course that only applies to the person with the knowledge.  I say that all the time myself.  Well Jay all I can say is, Thank You!  I am pretty excited to see how this works.  I have always been one that likes to have the right equipment for the job and the knowledge to do it the simplest way possible.  Plus any excuse to use the Delta works for me.

The blade tilts left.  5/4 material.
