I just purchased the Kreg Jig, and was excited about using it. However, when I went to set it up out of the box, I can't get the dril guide to release from the base. It won't even move. It's like it's built right to the base. The DVD or booklet were not helpful. Any suggestions?

Are you talking about the depth setting guide or the guide for drilling?

Mine has a knurled brass threaded nut to unscrew

Mine has the brass screw, but it was in a seperate bag, not attached to the drill guide at all.  There is a brass insert in the drill guide for the screw to go in to tighten the drill guide once in place.  However, I do not see anything else holding that drill guide in place, yet it won't budge.  It will not allow me to change the thickness settings.

The drill guide itself, the piece you actually insert the drill thru.

You saying the "drill guide block" is stuck in the "base", right?

I would take it back and get another one. But if you got it online then shipping charges will cost you, unless you contact the company and let them know your situation and see what they can do.

Other than that you may have to use something to force it up through the base. Maybe KregRep can give you a better solution to help you solve your problem.

Any chance you could post a picture? It could be something recognizable on sight.

m.brown,

The ''drill guide'' is the metal tubular object,  ''permanently'' affixed into the drilling jig.

It's purpose is to ''GUIDE" the drill to the work piece, at the appropriate angle.

Where in the instructions does it state to remove the drill guide?

''Thickness settings'' on thee block, are held in place by a brass screw that enters a threaded hole---

the pointed end of the brass screw, engages with a small recess in the block,

when its aligned with the desired settings.
