I noticed the huge trenches that are left behind once the jig has worked it's magic. What's the easiest and cheapest way to conceal those? (besides putting them in inconspicuous places or buying the filler pieces)

I have found that a dowel rod of the appropriate diameter glued into the hole and then sawed off flush and sanded works well.  You can match the wood type to help it blend in, or chose a contrasting color to make a "style" statement.

Kreg sells plugs made of different woods

Hi Dan, You should watch the video. The video demonstrates how to make your own plugs using a simple home made wooden jig and the correct dowel size that produces the exact length of plug for your work. These plugs are better to use that the ones sold in the store.

Here is what I do if I run out in field or even if I have nothing better to do on a rainy day in Washington.I have a supply of various dowels

I fill in with wood putty and sand if painting

I use the plugs seldom.  They cost too much and require too much sanding, and I don't like the look.  In areas where you can see the plugs use dado's or but joints.
