I looked around and I couldn't find a discussion about the rendering software some of you use to render your different wood working project designs. Anyone have any good programs that are somewhat easy to use and render really well?

I have used almost every graphic design software available over the last 20 years. I hate to say it but I found Sketchup difficult to use at first. Mainly because I had always designed for print, web, or animation. 3-D was a new thing for me. So my only strong suggestion is to take the time to go through the tutorials. Once I had done that it was a breeze. I like being able to see what different woods will look like as design elements.
I still find more enjoyment from using good ole graph paper and a really good mechanical pencil. Probably because it is a break from the computer.

Woodworking With SketchUp: Start at the End
Design. Click. Build.
The Sketchup Show they aren't woodworking focused, but still very educational on how to use sketchup.

I also found more textures that look nice.
Here's a couple things I designed with Google Sketchup..

Greetings Tim:

The Kreg Pocket Hole .skp file works great. When I import the pocket hole into an existing model, it automatically subtracts the faces. Have been trying with some different types of machining models for days. It has been eluding me for days how you accomplished this.

Would you please provide me with any directions or instructions, on how you designed the Pocket Hole to automatically subtract?

Any assistance for direction would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely

Gene Dawkins.
