Need some advice on stopped dado's.
Going to run dado's on a pair of stiles 1x6X80 inches and need to be stopped at about 4 1/2 inches from ends. How and what is best way to cut these on a router table. There is way to much length for a stop block to be used on table.I was thinking of using tape on fence for starting  and another tape on other side of bit for ending .Or would it be safer to pull router out and had hand cut  to where I can clamp stop blocks? i SURELY DONT WANT TO USE TABLE SAW AND THEN CHISEL OUT THE ENDS.

I would use the tape with pencil marks on the router fence.
I think that is a wise choice also,Thanks Robert
I always do cutoff test pieces if there is a short distance from the stopped dado and the end of the material..ill do "bump" cuts testing out where the true stop needs to be then mark the table and fence so I know the exact point of ending the dado..
Wouldn't you have a radius to square off at the ends either way?
Even if you did have a radius to square off..you can stop the dado a little short, then rabbet the end of the piece that rides in the dado to slip over the radius.
Thanks I can see I will have to get a new stone and sharpen some chisels.'Im working on a different type spline for screen doors.
