Which Setting on Drill Guide for different material thicknesses?

I am attaching a 3/4 inch piece to a 1-1/2 inch piece (2x4).

Which Piece do I use to determine my Drill Guide setting , the 3/4 inch or the 1-1/2 inch??

Thx

3/4 jig setting using a 2" screw. There is a chart that has all the setting and screw sizes. I wasn't able to attach it but you might find it somewhere in the forum

Thank you, Yes the chart is in the instruction booklet.

So the setting is based on the size the screw will be going into, not the size that it will be going through?

DS - Other way around. Set the jig and drill stop based on the stock the pocket is going into. That centers the screw on that stock. The screw length can be changed to accommodate attaching thinner or thicker stock. When attaching thinner stock, both the stop collar and/or the screw length may need to be tweaked to keep from penetrating the recieving piece.

Thanks Will, John, and James, I understand it now.  My first pocket-hole project involves attaching stock pcs's with dis-similar thicknesses as pictured here:

Hi James - I must disagree. Setting the jig at the 3/4 setting will not bring the screw out the center of the stock, It will likely be closer to 3/8". The settings need to reflect the stock that the pocket is going into.

Yes, that image shows that you will be drilling pocket holes into the 2x4. In this case you need to use the ¾" setting on both the drill bit and the jig. Then use 1¼" screws to attached the 2 pieces together.

Looking forward to seeing this project as it progresses.

Enough already, do a test piece and see how it works.

Basically, what Johnny D. Rich said:  do a test piece.
On the Kreg Tool Company home page, go to the media center.
I believe it's on the "More Product Videos" section.
There's a video titled,  "How to choose the best Kreg Screw for your project".
The guy there does a pretty good explanation on how to join different thicknesses
of wood.  And he pretty much said what Johnny D. said:  do a test joint on scrap to see how
it comes out.

Free Hand Guard (dust collection)

Hi.  I'm wondering if anyone has used the Woodpecker Free Hand Guard for dust collection on their bench top router table during pattern routing.  How effective is it?  It's adaptable to any router table.  Continue

New Kreg 720Pro

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.

I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.

First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
