Tools that you can't stand?

In every shop there's a tool...No, not the person working in the shop, the actual tool itself.....and that tool, in that shop...is a hated tool. 

 

You see, It doesn't matter how expensive or new that tool is, or how shiny or sharp you keep it.  It doesn't even matter what colour or what brand it is.  You simply just...hate it.

 

For me, it's the Jig Saw.  And not just "A" jigsaw...THE jigsaw.  I've owned several.  From cheapy little black and decker toss-away's to mid-line Ridgid's and Dewalts, to higher end Bosch barrel grips and what have you.  I've spent countless dollars, on countless tools, making countless cuts for countless hours....and i've come to a conclusion.......

 

I hate Jig saws.

For me,It's the table saw,I know many of you are gasping in shock,as Everybody uses table saws..not me.Ever.

I detest table saws with a passion,I think it's the most dangerous tool ever invented.

The potential for harming oneself is always present, the risk of kickback is always there,even if you're careful.

Honestly,who hasn't had a mishap,whether you hurt yourself or not,with a table saw?-I think almost everybody.

The table saw is the one tool I'm afraid to use.Scares the hell outta me.

 I use my circular saw for cutting and never a problem.

 

Now about the jigsaw..I own one( a cheapie) and used it twice and haven't used it since,I don't see a need for it in this day and age with so many other options available for more precise cuts.

 

And those friggin' carpenter's pencils..I agree,If you get them from a home center,they're the worst ones,especially the ones with the sharpener. I've returned to my trusty old #2.

Thank's Mr. Steinfeldt!  That sound's like a keeper!!   I'll see if I can get a Keson sharpener from someone off the internet!

It's clear to me that the problem is with the power cord...A hammer that size requires 220V.  That being said, i believe that there's a cordless option available now ;)

That is funny, the muffeler belt is slipping as well as the points are round. What do you think?

The trick with a glass cutter is clean and firmClean the glass and the cutter before the cut.  Compressed air on the tool and a rag on the glass works best.  Keep your tool oiled too and use a firm Steady pressure when scoring the glass.

I love my jig saw. I hate my simple little glass cutter. I have yet to get a piece of glass to score and snap. I grew up watching Pop do it with such ease! It's a frustrating little gadget!

As for table saws...  I respect the heck out of them, I agree with your point but in furniture making they can make identical panels with ease.  My most feared tool is a framing nailer.  They can stick nails out the sides of boards just because they can.  Table saws or any power tools I respect...  Framing nailers scare me to death.  With that being said I would not consider building anything with out them.

Typically the most dangerous tool, is the own you fear the less. After spending an afternoon of using my table saw and table router, I had a bad accident opening a cup of yogurt. The serrated edge aluminum foil lid cut into my finger when opening it, and bleed profusely.

The 6 packs of disposable 7mm mechanical pencils at your local office supply are a great choice. Don't think about the 5mm, or you will be breaking leads every few inches.

I love my Bosch jig.  I have my sears electric planner.  I can not get a square edge with it.  Any body want to buy a 1968 vintave electric planner?  Excellent condition, Only used once.

Back about 36 years ago when my now 38 year old son was two and trying to fall asleep in his crib, my wife and I determined that using a screw gun (after I got home from work) to hang drywall was much too noisy. Obviously, that was long before Dewalt (and battery powered drill/drivers) ever existed. The answer was an old Yankee screwdriver that I got from my dad; tediously slow compared to todays "slam bam,..hang it man!" but quite quiet and effective. Still have it hanging on the tool board!
