Has anyone found how to trick the jig so they can use 7/16 wood?

I would plane some scrap down to that thickness (7/16"), set the jig for 1/2" and play around with shims, the stop collar, and screw length until I found a combination that caused the screw to exit the first piece of wood near the center of the width and not over penetrate the second piece of wood while still having lots of threads in that second piece of wood. Of course none of my jigs are adjustable like some of the newer ones, other than adding/removing spacers (works fine for me).
Been doing that, but was hoping someone had already "invented the wheel".
Simplest solution would seem to be to increase the angle of attack of the drill, but not found a way to do that, without destroying the jig.
