Thanks for the reply. The ammonia I used is very similar to the blueprint ammonia that I can remember just as you describe - the paper was exposed to light and then to the ammonia fumes.

Please do let me know if you have success with some of your wood types. Of the woods I use, white oak works well, but red oak does not. I have heard that cherry does well, but have not tried it yet.

I will look forward to hearing how your types of woods react.

Hi, Vijay,

I got your comment on the process of fuming oak. The process involves using a high strength ammonia solution (I used 26% ammonium hydroxide) to chemically react to the tannins in the white oak. The process turns the wood dark and makes it look aged almost overnight. Working with the ammonia can be hazardous - it is a dangerous chemical. I built an enclosure out of plastic sheeting, placed the piece inside along with some bowls containing the ammonia, and sealed the whole thing up. After about 18 hours, it came was darkened from the fumes of the ammonia. I let it sit out of the enclosure for about 8 hours before I did anything with it.

If you go the Forum here at the Kreg community and search "fuming" I had a little discussion going about the process, and someone referenced some articles that contain more information. Hope that helps!

I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.

First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
