Liam's Third Project - Telephone Stand

Liam’s third project is somewhat down-scaled in appearance , but his heart makes up the difference in Ace’s. An auction style fundraiser to benefit law enforcement officers was held in honor of those who have given the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Even though Liam had no money to donate he decided that he would offer what he did possess, which is his developing skill utilizing the Kreg Pockethole Jig. He chose to build a telephone stand… Continue

It's got a stain!

Two coats of stain now on the face frame, going to do at least one more coat tomorrow (using Minwax stain and poly together in a can - honey pine).

So at least one more coat on the front, then 1 good coat on the back just to seal the wood all the way around.

This beast might acually be installed next weekend!

Final Sanding Done

Spent another 30 minutes going over the frame with 220 grit paper in my Random Orbit Sander, then I flipped the whole frame over and ran over the back with 150 just to clean up the surface.

IF I get to work on it tomorrow, it will be to start staining it...

Sanding, sanding, and more sanding

It wasn't really that bad. I sanded the whole thing with 100 grit paper in my Random Orbit Sander and then went over it again with 220 grit.

Here is a picture of the frame completely assembled:

And a couple shots of the pre-sanded joints:…

Moving right along

I've got the whole frame assembled and will being some sanding tonight, and I'll take a couple pictures tonight to post.

An interesting thing, I decided Saturday to take a break and install an old airconditioner I had laying around into the wall of my shop. I cut out 2 sections of the wall studs and then framed in the hole for the air conditioner, and I thought to myself, HEY, I could use my pocked hole jig to put in the new pieces of framing for the air… Continue

First Pocket Hole Project

I'm building a mighty large face from (its like 9' long and 35" tall) to face a set of built in drawers in the master bedroom. I've got it about 75% finished and will post up some photos shortly.

I have found the face clamp is a huge help in making nice flush joints.

Speaker Stand

It was just this last weekend, and I was a bit bored. My roommate was in his hometown and I had a rainy/cold weekend to look forward to. What to do, what to do...

I went into my woodshop and thought about what I could make next. It was too rainy and cold to drive to Menard's for more wood, so I thought I'd see what scrap wood I had left, even after the treasure box project. I still had some wood left over from the podium/light table project.

Then it hit me.

In… Continue

Treasure Box

Eventually I want to get around to making a hope chest. My brother has made a few as toy boxes for our nieces and nephews, and they look relatively simple to build. He, however, uses the dovetail method to build his sides. I would like to simply use the Kreg Jig to join the sides and bottom.

In order to understand the concept, I decided to make a smaller version and build a treasure box. Since my roommate's daughter's birthday was coming up (June 2nd), I thought I'd use the previous… Continue

Pontoon Boat Project (Carried over from Facebook)

So my friend Odin Gilbertson wanted to redo his pontoon boat. Since most on the water are of the aluminum construction variety, he thought he would do his differently. He always wanted a pontoon boat in the style of the old sailing vessels, so he decided he would construct his deck and rails out of wood. I then introduced him to the Kreg Jig. He was admittedly a little skeptical, but I reassured him this would be the way he should go. Since the cradle I finished was done using the Kreg Jig, he… Continue

Dimensional Furniture- Piece #2

Well I was able to complete my second piece of my office suite last weekend. My hutch came out pretty decent and matches the desk nicely. All of it was built using standard pine lumber from the box stores. Like the desk I ripped the the 2x4s in order to have more wood for less cost and also be less chunky. All the joints are made with Kreg pocket holes.…

Don't Know-Howe to Kregs WOW Know-Howe

A rather “windy” comment for an amateur. I’m proud to be a member of the “Kreg-Jigs” Pro-Am group.

I retired from the world of computer software in 2001. Upon retiring, I got involved part-time with my church and school with networking and useful hardware & software packages. In 2007/2008 they had assumed the responsibility of their day to day activities, and I was expelled. So again, I was among the retired and facing our own DIY’s and “Honey Do’s”.

My Kreg Jig life… Continue

Drill Press Stand

Craigslist can be a wonderful thing, when it comes to procuring quality tools at a low price. In this economy, who doesn't love a good deal? (By the way, I've noticed you can't ever find a used Kreg Jig. It seems no one wants to part with theirs.) A while back I found a Delta bench top drill press in my area for $55. The pictures looked impressive enough, so I made a phone call. Within minutes, I became a proud owner of a drill press! I picked it up that afternoon after work and shoved it into… Continue

TV Stand Complete

I was sick for 2 weeks. Upper resp infection, not fun, which slowed me down on doing anything. But finally snapped out of it and finished the project.

Viking Cradle

Throughout my paintball career, I've met some really nice people. Two of the nicest people ever were on my paintball team, Kristina Jager and Odin Gilbertson. These two married years back and were trying very hard to have a child together. They had two unsuccessful tries before, but this third one stuck. Gabriel was doing fine and on his way this last April. I wanted to celebrate their success the best way I knew how.

Kristina and Odin do OK, but they could use any help friends and… Continue

the Workstation

One day at work, my boss suggested that our concepting room needed a workstation. A table devoted to the marketing/art departments to help on conceptual projects to bring new products and packaging designs to market. We already had a large section of countertop in our photo studio, and I suggested we could use that as a table top. The original idea was then to purchase a couple of short file cabinets to place underneath it like a desk. However, the price tag on a file cabinet like that turned… Continue

My Kreg Journey

My name is Don Grubish, and this is my story.

One Saturday morning I was letting the TV keep me company while I prepared breakfast. I flipped through the channels, bypassing cartoons and news talk shows. I came across an informercial for the Kreg Jig, and thought, "whatever... time to make my eggs and hashbrowns." The more I listened to the testimonials and demonstrations, the more I found myself paying attention.

I kept thinking to myself, "well, that looks pretty easy. I… Continue

My building/woodworing history & reason for purchasing the Kreg jig

I was brought up by a father that generally had some home remodeling project going on and, since the chip doesn't fall far from the block followed in his footsteps. I took what I consider the next step and made a few pieces of furniture, a basic little table, foot stool, little cabinet, bookshelves, end tables that type of thing.

In the early 70s I joined forces with a builder and built homes for four years, but the lack of fringe benefits, vacations and long hours drove me back into the… Continue
