No the dim between the shelves are 5.5" min for shoes and up to 12" for boots. I used a clear varnish to seal from dirt and water.

Is there a reason for the beans? I was thinking of doing something like this for my home, but instead using glass beads. (the girlfriend and I are not coffee lovers, therefore not big on the bean smell.) However, this is a really cool idea to keep shoes organized. A) what is the height between shelves? B) do you worry about dirt/sand/water ruining this piece at all?
