Thanks! Well this was a couple years ago... Hmm. I have used the painters pyramids and they can work great in the right circumstances. They can have the tendency to leave impressions where the pyramids touch, so consider finishing the show face last if you are going that route. I am not a pro finisher, and this was my first at spraying a lacquer finish. It did turn out well. I used an airless spray gun. Installed a Fine Finish tip (the smallest) and sprayed.
Started by spraying a Sanding Sealer. Zinsser Bulls Eye Sealcoat. Then lightly sanded with 220 grit. Wiped with a tack cloth well, then sprayed two coats of satin lacquer top coat, lightly sanding and wiping down between each coat.
I only sprayed one surface at a time. Lacquer does dry very fast, so that helped.

After spraying the wood top, I applied two coats of satin polyurethane, which is much more durable. Also having the lacquer under it allows it to look more natural, and less plastic looking. No staining was done to tink the walnut. Thanks, hope that helps!
