I used a Behlen brand stain - Solar-Lux. The color is medium brown walnut. It acts more like a wood dye than a stain. I used a felt pad to apply it, and it penetrates well, with almost no open time - unless you use an additive, it is dry in 10 minutes. It is really pretty easy to apply as long as you keep a wet edge. For the finish, I used General Finishes Arm-R-Seal semi-gloss. It is an oil and urethane finish that I have used now on several pieces and I really like it. It gives a really deep finish like an oil but the urethane provides a good durable surface. I also apply it with a felt pad, very lightly sanding with 320 grit paper between coats. The TV stand has about 5 coats, and after about 3 it starts to get a really nice look. BTW, quarter sawn oak has so much nicer grain qualities than regular oak - you can get some amazing grain patterns from it.

BTW, how did you finish this oak? what kind of stain ? what company? was it oil based? what was the clear coat/sealer/varnish that you used on top of the stain? how many coats? Thanks.

beautiful grain pattern and finish. I didn't know oak could look so good. Very nice job
