Also, if you look at all the pictures, pantry shelf closeup2 shows the pocket hole detail.
Thanks, Alan. The shelves are pocket screwed at their corner joint and each shelf is pockethole screwed to the wall stubs, including a pockethole at 45 degree into the stud in the corner. As you noticed the shelves are set in dados at the sides. All this added up to incredible strength.
After this picture was taken it was filled to capacity with canned goods and has had zero sag.
First off it really is great we have the same problem with space....Question though? What did you do for shelf support with all that weight at the front of the top 2 shelves? I see that it is dadoed at he sides and back as well I am assuming, but the front looks unsupported.
Thanks Alan
Great, Suzy. A not more detail, the top shelves I ripped to exactly 11" (for consistency & that holds 3 at jars exactly), then the next is 8" (2 at jars), and bottom are 5" (1 jar with a little extra). If you do get him to build 1 similar remember that the shelf lengths on the right of corner are same length, but the adjoining ones on left are not. The length of the narrower shelf is longer by the amount of difference between the 11 shelf & the narrow 1. For ex., the 8" shelf is 3" longer (11-8=3). Thought I'd add that as I forgot that detail and had to redo the 3 bottom shelves in the middle of putting it up.
Also, since its in a corner, the squareness or lack of can be an issue, so I assembled mine in place so that I could "tweak" individual shelves as I do have a problem with square corners in my house. Also, since the adjoining shelves are joined with pocket screws it was easier to assemble 1 shelf at a time.
I encourage you to have him build a similar 1 for your pantry as it is specifically sized for home canned goods
This shelf looks great, I too have canned goods I need to put somewhere, I am having Fredericksburg peaches shipped here next week so I will be very busy. I think I will try talking my hubby into building one of these.
This shelf unit replaced a 3 shelf cabinet unit that was only on one wall and got too small too fast once we started canning this year. This unit is custom fitted to the corner space and made open. I don't expect the shelves to sag as they are self-supporting (see closeup 2) with pocket hole screws as well as attached to the wall studs using 2-1/2" pocket screws. However, if any sagging occurs with the wider shelves, I will add a shelf bracket on the wall stud closest to the point where the shelves meet. My wife is very happy and that is what counts.

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.
I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.
First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
