Thanks a lot, the links will help a lot and also the idea of getting the mattresses and build the trundle first makes totally sense.

Sorry and to your main question of height,  I built the trundle first, added the height of the mattress then added 1 inch for clearance.  It's a tight fit I would allow for at least 2 inches of clearance if I had it to do over again.

Antonio,

Below are a few link that I used as a foundation for my plan however I modified it a ton due to cost or availability of materials and so the bed could be taken apart easily.   For the corner posts I used doubled up 2 x 4's to save $ as my only non treated 4x4 option in Indy was cedar (5 times more expensive).  Where these plans call for 1x8  I ripped down a sheet of 3/4 MDF to 7 1/2 inches,  was able to make the rails, and trundle out of one sheet and had enough left over to add the raised panel type highlights and additional top bed rail supports (thicker at ends so I could run longer screws through the brackets and into the rails,  plus added depth to the side view.

Hope the pics, links and my description help you with your plans

Where I have some questions how high has to be the rail to allow the  trundle bed?

I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.

First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
