This was horrible. The clear coat I applied was not compatible with the stain I had applied or something to that affect... and the result was very bad. I ended up having to apply chemical cleaners and scrape the entire thing down again.

Robert,

I disagree with your statement---

''...one of my occasional failures.''

I'd refer to it as  ''a learning experience.''

Derek,

Interesting unwanted effect, I had the same result with one of my Crown Molding boxes, and later found out that the Indian Ink I used to produce the ebony finish reacted to the Clear Coat, still haven finished the project, mainly due to the unsatisfactory finish the hours I spend preparing veneer burls and the physical construction. I must admit though the box did look superb prior to me allpying the Clear Coat, its in the gallery somwhere, one of my occasional failures.

Dont feel left out I did same thing with a Ebony stain and Poly It did not bubble but after I delivered it to owner and they wiped down after every meal it started getting milky tone to it.I contacted Min Wax and he said to never apply clear coat on project for at least 14 days it gives stain time to set real good.

Derek, the desk turned out great in the end. I'm interested in knowing what happened with your finish coat. This is the part I have most difficulty with.
