This is a good way to spend seven months of your spare time. This is built from Norm Abram’s New Yankee Workshop Plans. I only worked on it in my spare time. It was a gift for my wife and will be passed down to my youngest daughter and on down to my Granddaughter. It is all mortise and tenon and dovetail joints It is all raised panels solid red oak even the back. It was a very rewarding project but one that I would not want to repeat.

Thanks Jay, It was a lot of work but i did enjoy it. I came from a family of 7 boys that all made there living as carpenters  except me . I worked in the building supply selling lumber and hardware. In my younger days i did help build several houses and i am a licensed electrician. I also built the house that i am living in for the last 15 years now. I have ben in and around carpenter work all my life so i guess woodworking just came natural.  I think my talent comes from not being afraid to try different things and messing up. In woodworking if you start with a large project and mess up you can always cut it up and make a small project.

Roger, It looks like you have built a masterpiece in a desk.  Reading your describtion it tells me that you not only have excellent talent but also a good working knowledge of jointery. It may have taken time but here again when you think of all the jointery you have done, it is a large undertaking.  The fine details like the raised panel on the out side of the desk panels, give it class as apposed to the faster method of inset panels.  Dovetailed joint is one of the hallmark of a good cabinet maker and again time consuming but in doing so has added features that are second to none.  It is exciting to see workmaship  like this on this site.  Your talents in craftsmanship will pay off in time as this desk will become a heirloom of your family and a testimony of not only your ability but also your love towards them years from now.  Thank you for showing your work
