So it is Oak ?... the reason I ask is I was also told it might be "Tiger maple" if it had the marks.

Thanks for the link and your time...

Mike, that is perfectly normal, those streaks are actual rings from the tree and you can see them when the wood is quartersawn.  http://www.allwoodwork.com/article/woodwork/plainorquartersawn.htm  This site should be informative to you, most antique furniture that you see with the streaks was made with quartersawn white oak.  There is more waste with quartersawing, but the wood is much more stable that way.  Hope this helps.

Thanks Justin, I added a picture in the top left of this "hall mirror" I have been working on. The wood may even be two different types...not sure.

Hey Mike, I would really have to see a picture of what you are talking about to help.  I haven't worked at all with anything reclaimed to be honest, but would be more than happy to help if I can.

have asked on "chat" a couple of times with no reply. I have started a Hall Mirror made from re claimed oak from a farm house a half hours drive away. I was told it was oak...when you cut into it some pieces have silver/white worm shaped areas in the grain. is this normal with oak ? i have never worked with hardwood before...alot more work than pine.
