Craftsman Radial Arm Saw listed on Craigslist local to me for $25.00, listed as non working with electrical issue.... well, me being a fairly competent electrician, I figured I hit the jack pot. Went to pick it up, the wiring was apart, and the seller said he has owned it since new and that a year or so ago it stopped working. He had had someone look at it and they thought the issue was a relay that he could not find a replacement for. He also had the original owners manual for it with wiring diagram for 110v and 220v.
Cool, I take it home, and get out my voltmeter to try to trouble shoot it. I wire it back up for 110v, apply power and flip the switch, and low and behold she fires right up.
I am stoked. I have an old school cast iron Craftsman Radial Arm Saw and it only cost me $25.00 plus fuel to go get it!!! Jackpot!

Any Idea what year your RAS was made? I called Craftsman to get an idea of a year of manufacturing, but all they could tell me was it was built before 1987.

You should not have needed to put it on a 30amp breaker. the only things that would be different are if it were set up on a 220 volt system or a 120v system. Either way the maximum amperage it would need is 15. The manual calls for a 15 amp time delay fuse. But since we dont use fuses any longer a 15 amp single pole breaker should work. The manual contradicts itself by modern standards. It says when in the 110 volt configuration, it needs to be on a 15 amp breaker, but it calls for 12 gauge wire. By modern standards, 12 gauge wire is 20 amp. 14 gauge wire is 15 amp.
Are you running the saw on 110 volt or 220?
