I am building a specaial nested set, (one fits inside of the other) and I didn't want any screws in the top.  I am going with 1" from the edge for now.  I was just worried about the corners since I will be @ 1" in either direction

 

I will post picture as I get steps done.

I actually opted to glue and air nail the top.

Hey Lee,

 

do you have a picture of the bottom side?  I would like to see where you located the holes to secure the tops.  I have made several of these, ut with screws in the top. 

 

How close to the edges of the sides did you get?
