I used two 3x3's to raise the boards so I could use the clamps. Also notice the aluminum foil which keep the glue from sticking to the 3x3's.

I met a Kreg rep at Keim Lumber in Charm, OH the other day. I told him I was hving trouble joinging boards for a table top. I explained that even though I used clamps that the board would "jump" on me when I inserted the screw. He asked if I was drilling all the way through so that there was a small hole on the side of the board. I said I was. He explained that you should not drill clear through (Don't know how I missed that in all the reading I have done on this), but leave 1/16 or more to hold the screw in place as it is going into the other board. Makes sense.

The foil is a great solution! Quick thinking, Rod! I really like that XL Face Clamp too... what a perfect application for a unique tool.
