Funny you asked because I'm am doing 4 of them for a restaurant owner and he wanted the metal frame work to be routered in so the screen could be replaced easier as needed.It is a pain in the you no where but it pays the bill

Jens, Nice looking door. Thanks for sharing. Have you thought of routering a recess on the backside of the doors? That would allow you to tack the screen, then use the smaller moulding that could end up being flush with the overall surface of the backside.

I tried to post this when we were talking about how to keep the door strong & not "bendy"...but I didn't know how to insert the photos until now.
Anyway,

I posted a door like Jens (i.e.: a storm&screen door), so that you can see the way it's fastened with Kreg & also how the gingerbread overlaps & strengthens the joints...It's a big door, 84"high by38" wide that I made 4 years ago ...still strong & doesn't bend. .I'm in the NorthEast so people want to be able to change out the screen & Storm panels so I made them to easily replace in season.

You no you can also buy stair tread which is usually 11 1/4 wide and we can get it in10 or 12 foot lengths So when you rip it it gets pretty cheap

Well there are a couple sources 1 was Lumbermans lumber and another is Martin lumber which also carries Iron wood ect types wood

I hate to keep asking questions but where do you get 5/4 inch boards in your area.

I used 1x4 and 1x6 on mine and it is Hemlock with Corbet stain. When you do the scroll work layout this is what I do and it is perfect match on both sides.Measure the rails and mark out on exact size paper then fold it in half and draw your scroll on the half ,from edge not center and if you like it take a real heavy lead pencil and tracing paper and slide the paper under the fold and redraw it the spray sticky adhesive to wood and then just cut it out

Can you give me the wood sizes used. Looks like 1x4 and 1x6, also the kind of wood you used.
