This is the replacement main frame I built for my futon. I used 3/4" birch veneer. It's not pretty but it is functional for my first real attempt at it. I use the hinges and mattress frame from the original futon. I plan on making a new mattress frame in the future.

very nice! Such a great idea, I've been thinking of doing same with cheapo bathroom vanity..ie: using the hinges, hardware, etc, and building something much more sturdy. Great job, and fyi..it is pretty :)
