Thanks. I have gotten a few requests and have given some thought to writing out some plans. I think that the concept can work with almost any fireplace but plans would have to be adjusted to fit each fireplace individually. I really wish I took step by step photos while I was building it.

Welcome. Sorry no plans. Sometimes I whip up a scale drawing on graph paper to look at proportions.

Well...that is a tough one to answer. I would say that if I started with a clean slate then it would take me three weekends and some nights after work in between. When we took down the old floor to ceiling paneling the sheetrock behind it was badly damaged and I thought it would take longet to repair it than hang new stuff. So I pulled down the drywall to find seven wall studs, the top plate and header over the fireplace destroyed by carpenter ants. i spend a good chunk of time replacing timber, insulation, vapor barrier etc.

Very nice David, how long did it take to do it?

Thank you all for the kind words. It feels great to get praise from others who share my interests in woodworking. I got the design inspiration from Gary Streigler and modified the proportions and layout to fit the space. We are all pleased with the outcome, its presence pulls you in from the rest of the house. i think this is one gift that will continue to keep on giving. i foresee taking family photos in front of the fireplace.
