I used maple plywood with red mahogany stain.

Joan,

A little of both. I had my measurements for where I wanted it to go and then ordered the seat and baskets. I knew the dimensions of both and calculated the dimensions of each part but then measured the seat cushion and baskets to double check my work.

BTW - did you start by buying the baskets and build the bench to fit?  I've made a couple deck loveseats, designing the first to fit the cushions.  When I made the 2nd and 3rd loveseats, the cushions were no longer available and will now have to custom order :)

Beautiful bench! Like the stain, finish and the design where one can add pretty baskets for additional storage. Great work!
