Again dedicated to the high speed mastercraftsman Ray Vile.
This box also made for my wifes friend Estela took me 3 days to get to this stage.
Tooling list:
Bandsaw, Shaper, Table saw, Sanding linisher,
The inserts are lock miter jointed
Comsumables: Tite bond II, SS Chain, Hinges, 120 to 340 Sandpaper, Wood filler, Beer.
Did it take me long? yes it did, will I make more? Yes I will, is it worth the effort? Commercially possibly No,
Estimated sale for recovery of all up costs would have to be in the vicinity of $400 to $500 upon completion.
Fun and enjoyment ? priceless !!
What am I going to do with it? Give it away to a friend.

The hinges are just conventional types.
Some time ago I made a box for my framing clamps as I was sick of losing small parts.
I put a gas strut on the lid as an experiment to see if it would work, although its the opposite to closing it would prevent the lid dropping on small fingers if thats what you were interested in.
I havent personally seen or used "safety hinges" as such so I will educate myself and read up on the subject. Anyway I posted a few shots today showing the gas strut setup, so check them out and if you need more info please ask
Nice box. Do those hinges control the speed in which it closes? I made a toy box and when i got ready for safety hinges could not find any except through rockwell. Settled for them although thye were not what I wanted.
Robert after looking at your box ,you have just as much work on one of the little boxes inside the box, as i do on the whole box
Really looks good Robert, I didn't do anything like that, I cut a pc of oak 4 times with my miter saw 2 @ 8'' and 2@ 5'' took the to my router table with a 1/2 rabbiting bit set at a 1/4'' deep and made 4 passes 2 on each end then cut a p of 1/2'' oak that was 5 1/2 widex 8'' long for the top, rabbited that on all 4 sides so it could fit down on the top. on the inside of all 4 sides I made a 1/4'' dado a 1/4 from the bottom then I cut a pc of 1/4 oak ply to fit in the bottom. glued it all together . after the glue dried I set the fence on my table saw 1'' and cut the top off of the boxes, mortised the hinges put in the felt and added the clasp and magnet.
My boxes are no where as elaborate as the one you made, Keep up the good work
Nice work Rob, I am sure that your friend will love it. well done mate and thanks for sharing.

Hi. I'm wondering if anyone has used the Woodpecker Free Hand Guard for dust collection on their bench top router table during pattern routing. How effective is it? It's adaptable to any router table. Continue

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.
I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.
First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
