This is a close up of the end panel showing the knotty wood. For several years I have been using epoxy resin of which I apply a black colored resin dye and using a mylar back covering the back of the hole I fill it with the epoxy mixed resin allowing it to harden. Sometimes I will add other object like a metal flake and or sawdust or rotted wood to bring out the effect. This really makes the knot pop out and thus using the knotty throw away wood you get a superior looking piece. I use this also for in lays and use different color dyes. If you look back at the knotty pine hutch i submitted earlier you will se the resin used in the cabinets top band to make the black stripe.
