yeah, i used "poplar" because i found a local tree cutting service guy who mills his own stock from the trees they take down.  Much cheaper that way.   to make the legs I just glued (3) 3/4 x 2 1/2 boards together.  than thinking the legs where to big i cut them down on the table saw to 2" x 2" thats where the slats that make the bottom shelf came from.  Than planed and jointed them down to 1 7/8"  by the time I was down becuse i'm still learning how to use the planer.    The three holes in the side between the legs in the pic above are for the pocket holes i use to but he top on.  i haven't any problems with expanding and contracting of the top so i think it worked fine.

Hi Mark, two questions. How did you secure the legs to the top...was there enough room for a pocket hole? Also, did you mill the 2x2 legs? I've been looking everywhere for 2x2 stock (I've only found oak and I'm on a pine budget).

Jig settings for 2 ¾ x 1 ½ boards with 30 degree miters?
