Hi Erin;

Nice job, and excellent suggestion on the finishing. The Minwax pre-treatment is excellent for pine. I have had great success with the laminated (side-to-side) pine panels from Home Depot. Another stain that I have used to good effect in Benny Moore's Sherwood. Takes a bit of getting used to, but can be used to give various darknesses of a luscious brown stain. Then finish with 3 or 4 coats of water based satin Varathane - wonderful stuff to work with.

Thank you, Scott. The wood is all pine. I used a wood conditioner first, then one coat of Minwax English Chestnut Stain, then 4 coats of semi-gloss polyurethane.
