I built nearly the same thing for my granddogs Christmas present! Hers has doors on the bottom for storage. I have a prototype that I built 11 years ago for our Golden who has used it every day since! I made the top out of two 1x6 pine boards and used my band saw to make the cutouts before joining them together. Using plastic or ceramic bowls makes it easier to get them out to put in the dishwasher.
