Hi......Chris...The original bed assembly would run 500 now days.  This bed is no longer simple.  I will post a photo of the whole wall unit , it is almost finished.  It is a winter only when I felt like it project

Nice job.  We are finishing a bonus room and probably doing a murphy bed.  Excluding the mattress, how much do you estimate the whole project cost including the hardware?   Thanks

The bed clears the fan by a mile even spinning. Hardware kit is by Create-a-bed purchased at Lee Valley. You just buy the screws that do not fix the hardware to the bed. IE joinery screws. Plywood, iron on wood edging ( buy a good trimmer cause there is lots of it) and watch the direction of the wood grain.

I take it the bed won't interfere with the ceiling fan when you raise it up. What was your hardware for the pivot point?

Kim:
This is the room where the sewing center and stacking desk will reside. The sewing center requires a bit of space to work around, so this is how we did it. The bed is simple, just a lot of large parts. The stick is to keep the sides straight while the in-laws are visiting and I can get the face frame for the cabinets in it's place on either side. The instructions say to put ugly black screws through the front end of the bed frame so I replaced that kind of joinery with kreg screws. You don't see any hardware. Screws in the headboard and the upper bed head assembly. Approximatly 40 pockets. I use that jig just about everywhere. The sides of the drill are wearing away and causing tearout around the holes, especially with that splintery birch plywood.

I have always thought Murphy beds are the coolest thing ever. I never could figure out where to put one to use but always wanted one. Did you use the Kreg jig for this?
