Comment by Derek on January 8, 2010 at 9:39am: I used a "Java" stain. The finish is actually a much darker deep brown when you see it in person. Then, when the sun comes out (or you use flash on a camera) it turns this brilliantly beautiful red color. We've really been enjoying it so far... the hidden drawer is still my favorite part.
