The top has a front and 2 sides and no back. The sides are raised panels, single on the sides and triple on the front. The top is split into 3 pieces of oak plywood with two hinged doors on the front half. The whole thing slides over the aquarium and is held up by blocks inside the canopy that sit on the lip of the aquarium, covering the black frame of the aquarium. For feeding I access thru the hinged doors on the top. For maintenance the whole canopy is easily removed. You could put a solid top and hinge the front. The lights sit on the glass on the aquarium and are not part of the canopy.
