Austinedc, all the posts are on pier blocks. This is common in this area, especially for decks that are low to the ground. I would probably use buried posts if I could, but this was an extremely rocky area and next to impossible to dig holes; part of the reason why the deck was put there in the first place! The ground is very stable, and the deck is quite solid.

I hope most of the posts on both deck sections are buried below ground and not just floating on pier blocks.

Great looking deck.  Had to look up your location.  I was guessing a rocky Maine coast line.  Not too far off.

Why did you do this? You know how many people are looking at this and saying, "WOWWWWWW, I want one!".

Actually I could use something like it cause about 25 yards from my backdoor is this....

Outstanding job, really looks good!

The deck looks really good as does the very pretty scenery, You have done a great job and should be proud of your efforts. Well done.

Thanks Jay; this was an early photo, so there have been some changes since. The wood has been lightly stained, which evened out the color a lot. Plus, there is an open gazebo *almost* finished on the upper level (where the four posts are now), and a walkway through the woods to the upper deck. I'll post some more pictures soon. I am planning to build a bench and planter on the lower level, both to block off the corner and to provide seating and decoration.

LOTS of comments on how clean the decking looks. This was my first experience with Kreg jigs, and I have to say that the deck jig worked very well. Takes a little longer, but the results are worth it.

Derek, very nice, like the design with the upper landing.  Stairs look well made with evenly spaced steps. A large undertaking that looks good with the scenery.

Looks like a very nice location for fishing and boating.  In one photo you mentioned not realizing how the wood looked until you looked at the photo.  It's just character but with it being pressure treated it will last several years.  Like the clean looking surface without screws showing.  Thank you for sharing.

New Kreg 720Pro

I saw the video Kreg put out for this new jig and had high hopes for it.

I purchased one today and am very disappointed with it.

First the docking station is extremely cheap. The plastic is pathetic. A Lego has more…
