End view with stain applied. Looking close you will see the second round over-cove molding attached. The angles here are 52 degrees to the molding face.

Hi Joan,  thank you so much for your comments.  In answer to you question about using digital gauges for set up, I do some of the time.  I have a varried assortment of measuring tools from my younger days when I was doing automotive machine work.  In the making of this crown molding I made myself a simple depth guage of which I checked the cutting process frequently.  In this case I ran all of the material that was getting the coves cut through the cut setting and then raised the depth setting and ran it all through again and repeated this method all the way through the material.   I did the same on the router table as in all cuts on the tble saw.  I have found that this method will yeild accurated reproductions of the project.  Then I keep a sample of the cuts for repeated set up in the event that I need to reproduce the same shape again on a different date.  I also log all the cuts with detail diagrams of the profiles and angle settings.  I do this on all doors and or other items of which are very detailed and that I may have to reproduce something at a later date.  This way I know it will be the same.

Shop safety is something that I am very agressive on.  I would hate to have to at some time tell you that I got injuried because I was foolish and did not wear protective gear and worked in an unsafe way.  I have seen too many injuries and when talking to them they seem to say " well I shudda wore my safety glasses or dust mask or used a puch stick".  The thing that stands out here was that they all closed the barn door after the horse left.  They "shudda" practiced using safety gear and worked safely and they would not have to be saying, "I shudda" but still be working wood without injury.  Even using all the safety gear and practicing the safest working methods it is still a chance of being injuried.  It is simply a hazzardous thing and  akin to a loaded gun but there is no need to look down the barrel of the gun either.

I guess I will have suffer the loss of the point but really the "Beavers" do well to and this was just an old Tee shirt that I had.  Haha.  Thanks again Joan, and have a great upcoming holiday season.

Thanks for sharing these, Jay - beautiful work, as always!  Do you use a digital gauge on your saws to be accurate with the cuts?  I really appreciate  your attention to detail and willingness to share your talents with those of is in the hobby phase of woodworking.  I know you have inspired many to try new things - including me!  Keep on making sawdust!  (And thanks, too, for showing that you wear personal protective equipment while you're working in the shop...although I have to deduct a point for the UO t-shirt - GO BEAVS!) :)
