Wilma...I buy a lot of books for ideas...and one book I bought was about pubs in Ireland.   On the cover was a chessboard attached to an odd metal base....in the book it said what it was. So I went on ebay and searched for vintage Singer sewing machines and found several of these bases.  I had to strip it all down which was extremely tideous but it came out ok.
