What kind of joint is this, this is just sloppy installation.    You asked me to give you my opinion of these cabinets and I have put more that enough negative comments about them.  I will say that someone needs to improve upon their business methods before they begin to call these custom or anything near quality as it just is not there.  I would be ashamed to turn out out this type of work to any customer even if it were cabinets to be used in an outhouse.  In my 20 plus years I have seen my share of cabinet work done by not only the "quick make a buck" type to the shops whom claim to be professional and charge a big pile of money.    I have rebuild many from just age and use damage to the ones that are just complete wrecks from sloppy and uncaring persons that take little pride in their craft.  I am doing one now of which is just such a disaster and the owner spent several thousand dollars on them just a short time ago.  I am refering to the hickory rebuild that I have some of the photos posted on here.  The cabinets were in such bad copnditions that I have totally rebuild some and the ones I could save I have had to build full length panels for them.  I have had uild new doors for the entire kitchen as well as the drawers.  They failed due to not only craftsmanship but from inferior products.

What prompted this project was when the owners would go to bed with the cabinets all closed and the following morning would find the doors open on several.  When you looked at the upper wall cabinets they were pulling away from the walls from poor construction and installation.  They had once wanted to install granite or stone counter tops but the company that looked at the job told them that the cabinets were not strong enough to support the stone weight.  They further told them that they were so crooked in appearence that the stone would look pretty bad on them.  I found the reason to be material and construction.  That long bar island you see in the photo I posted was made out of 5/8 " and 3/8" plywood, staple and nail construction with the poor fit of the joints.
