building a king bed in a garage can be a challenge. There is never enough space in a workshop.

Hey good luck with the bed project, Ryan. It was a really big project for me, but I was pleased with how mine turned out. Be sure and put up some pictures as you build it.

Hey, thanks Hugh. Just took a look at your first bed - great job!! Let me know when you have some pictures of your second one under construction.

Great job, William. I'm starting to plane boards for my second bed. They're a lot of work, but definitely very satisfying to see the finished product. Two thumbs up!!

LOL, wake up, James . . . .
Yeah, it comes apart. I used a set of bed rail fasteners which mortise into the rails and posts (Rockler part no. 28597) The hooks on the rails are aligned so that they pull in tight against the posts, making for zero movement when connected. The center rail is removable and uses brackets from Rockler, as well. (part no. 10025)

Hi Jim,
I don't really have plans - just a bunch of sheets with lots of scribbles and measurements that I made as I was constructing the bed. If you like, I can give you some of the basic measurements and construction methods I used - at least that would get you started.

Very Nice!!
I love the simple styling of the head and foot boards. We have one of those Sleigh Beds and it takes up too much room. Do you have a plan you can share for this?

I used quarter sawn for pretty much everything that is visible. All of the bed except the center slat is quarter sawn. The inside parts of the chest of drawers and bedside tables (and drawer sides, etc.) are poplar. I have a place nearby called The Hardwood Store in Gibsonville, NC which has a really great selection of 4/4 and 5/4 thick quarter sawn white oak. They also have quarter sawn red oak, but I haven't worked with that yet - I think it takes more attention in the finishing process.

Great job! I have some quartersawn oak drying and plan on using it this winter for a bedroom suit as well. What pieces did you use quartersawn for besides the beside table tops?
